The Holistic Approach to Life Threatening Illness
Patients with an advanced or newly diagnosed life threatening illness are candidates for the Palliative Care Program at St. Anthony’s Hospital. Palliative Care is a holistic approach, to control the pain and other symptoms of patients with advanced illness, such as chronic heart and lung disease, including certain cancers and diabetes.
The focus of this approach is on providing compassionate, specialized attention to the needs of patients and their families. We attempt to improve the quality of their life in order to make their remaining years as comfortable as possible.
Our Palliative Care Program team is composed of board-certified, palliative care physicians, certified physician assistants, Pastoral Care team members and social workers. The team meets with patients and their families to address their spiritual and social needs while working closely with physicians regarding treatment options.
The mission at St. Anthony's Hospital is to care for the complete person and the goal of the Palliative Care Consult Service is to help patients and their families successfully cope with the effects of life threatening illness.
