St. Anthony's Triathlon Again Captured in Watercolors

Local Artist’s Limited Edition Painting is Award for Winners

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., (April 2, 2012) – St. Anthony’s Triathlon organizers are pleased to announce that for the 23rd year, local artist Bill Castleman has created a beautiful watercolor to commemorate the St. Anthony’s Triathlon, April 27-29, 2012.

Castleman’s limited edition painting, which will be among the awards given to winners on April 29, portrays the bicycle portion of the race.

“We are always truly in awe of the wonderful work that Bill does for us each year,” said Susan Daniels, St. Anthony’s Triathlon manager. “He captures the race in a way that truly brings it to life. We are honored to have his beautiful artistry as a part of the Triathlon this year.”

In the past, Castleman’s works have depicted all aspects of the Triathlon, from the swim to the run and now, the bicycle. This year, the watercolor will be available for purchase at the registration tent during the event’s expo. The Triathlon is in its 29th year.

Known for its scenic course along the downtown St. Petersburg waterfront, St. Anthony’s Triathlon also has been named one of 10 USA Triathlon Regional Championship events for 2012. The Triathlon attracts approximately 3,500 individuals and 125 relay teams each year from more than 45 states and nearly 20 countries.

The race weekend will also include an extensive event expo April 27-28 and the Meek & Mighty Triathlon on April 28, a shorter-distance race for youth ages 7-14 and novice adults. Athletes will compete for a professional prize purse totaling $65,000 in addition to $10,000 in prizes for the top male and female competitors in the Elite Amateur division.
